"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
These are the last words of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry, His marching orders for the church, and they focus on one word:
Disciple (n)- A world-visionary, world-impacting, radically committed follower, learner, and reproducer of Jesus Christ.
Every person that responds to Christ’s gospel with repentance and faith is His disciple. Every disciple when they are fully trained will be like their Teacher (Luke 6: 40). So we as disciples are to orient our lives around gospel growth, or discipleship:
Growing UP:
Being made more like Christ by better understanding, applying, and reproducing His word, according to His gospel.
Growing IN:
Meeting together as a church family for gospel growth.
Growing OUT:
Seeking gospel growth among all peoples for their good and God's glory.
We seek to accomplish this in two ways…
1.) Disciple-Making Groups:
Where faithful, available, and teachable people are trained in the basics of gospel growth by trained church members just like Jesus’s disciples were trained by Him: a life and truth transfer, in the context of an intentional relationship, with the expectation of reproducing this training with others as a lifestyle for a lifetime.
Topics: Understanding and responding to the gospel, a new identity in Christ, abiding in the truth of God’s word, enduring difficult times through the gospel, and becoming a reproducing disciple-maker.
Group Size: 1 - 5 trainees.
Duration: 60-90 minutes a week, for 9 months to a year.
Weekday: Any agreed upon time throughout the week.
Location: Any agreed upon location in the community.
2.) Grow Classes:
Where our church family members meet together with trained teachers to continue their gospel growth.
Topics: Vary, but focused on gospel growth
Group Size: Vary
Duration: ~60 minutes a week, On-going
Weekday: Sundays (9:00AM) or Wednesdays (6:30PM)
